BASIC APPRENTICESHIP REQUIREMENTS

The North Alabama Electrical JATC Apprenticeship Program consists of 5 years of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of On-The-Job Training. Starting pay is $10.45 per hour with advancement after 1,000 hours of on-the-job training.

To apply for the Apprenticeship Program, the applicant must:

Be at least 18 years of age at the time of completing the application.

Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.

Must submit the completed Apprenticeship Application and Supplemental Form.

Pay a $20.00 application processing fee.

Provide a copy of your official high school transcript and any postsecondary school transcripts, showing courses and grades. If you have a G.E.D., you must also provide a copy of your G.E.D. Certificate.

Minimum Math Requirement: Must have completed one full year of high school Algebra I with a passing grade or one post high school Algebra course that is equivalent to Algebra I.

Provide a copy of a valid driver?s license.

Must be a resident of one of the counties this program geographically covers:

Alabama: Lauderdale, Colbert, Marion, Limestone, Lawrence, Winston,
Madison, Morgan, Franklin, and the portion of Marshall north of the Tennessee River

Tennessee: Hardin, Wayne, Lawrence, and Giles

Applicants may also prefer to submit a copy of their resume. Although helpful, it is not required.

Applications are accepted without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender or age , except that the applicant must meet the minimum age requirement.

Application Deadlines:

Applications may be submitted to the North Alabama Electrical JATC daily, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Transcripts and the application processing fee are due by the last day of the month in which you applied.

The application deadline for the 2011-12 academic year is March 31, 2011.



NJATC Aptitude Test

Applicants meeting the minimum requirements above will be asked to take a NJATC Aptitude Test in Math and Reading, developed and validated by the American Institute for Research. All tests are administered at the North Alabama Electrical JATC facility. Applicants will be notified in writing of their assigned test date and test time.

Interview with the North Alabama Electrical Training Committee:

Those applicants who obtain a qualifying score of 4 or higher on the NJATC Aptitude Test will be invited to have an oral interview with the Training Committee. Qualifying applicants will be notified in writing of their interview date and time.

Written offers of apprenticeship will be extended to those selected for the program. If selected to enter this training program, a drug/alcohol test is required.

Applicants interviewed, but not initially selected, will remain active in the Apprenticeship Applicant Pool for possible selection for a period of two (2) calendar years from the interview date, unless they request that their name be removed from the list or if they fail to meet a drug screen test.

Other Abilities Required:

Must be physically and mentally able to learn to safely perform essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodations.

Must be able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers.

Must be able and willing to attend all related classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.

Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights.

Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, trenches, and crawlspaces.

Must be able to regularly lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. On occasion, lift objects weighing above 50 pounds.

Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold temperature conditions.

Must be able to discriminate between colors.

Must be able to operate two-handed power equipment.

Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings.
